Snow Days are Over

I came to visit Boone, to say my goodbyes to the beautiful mountains that I have called home for the past few years.  Of course it has resembled a frozen tundra during my visit but I will miss it all the same.  During the end of my visit Dana and I went to the parkway, and I got to visit the places I love the most. I am sure I will miss snow in Africa.

The First of Many

Welcome to my Peace Corps Blog!

I will be heading to Zambia after first staging in Philadelphia on January 31st. for 27 months. I am really excited and nervous at the same, but Peace Corps has always seemed like the right step after college.  The next few weeks will involve visiting friends and family, and attempting to do the impossible, pack for two years.

My assignment in Zambia is a Community Education Specialist within Rural Education Development.  I will be living in a small village and traveling by bike to different schools. I will be working alongside teachers, as well as teaching on my own.

Zambia is descibed as the “Real Africa”, primitive and beautiful. It is home to many parks, as well as Victoria Falls. I will be living without electricity and running water which will be a challenge at first but I am looking forward to living a simpler lifestyle.

That’s the basics for now.

Hello world!
